# How To Add Global Style to a WordPress Block?

## Required Setup

- Make sure the default WordPress Block editor is active. 

- You need to have the [Nexter Blocks](https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-plus-addons-for-block-editor/) plugin installed and activated.

- Make sure the Global Block Style block is activated. To verify this, visit Nexter → Blocks → and search for Global Block Style and activate.

- Global Block Style is included in the free Nexter Blocks plugin, so a Pro license is not required.

## How to activate the Global Block Style?

Go to 

- **Nexter **→ **Blocks **

- **Search **the block name and **turn on the toggle**.

## How to Use the Global Block Style?

To use the Global Block Style block feature, add any block from the Nexter Blocks. 

For example, let’s use the Blockquote block.

First, make necessary style changes from the **Style** tab.

> *Note: You can also add style to the block from the Advanced tab, but the styles applied from On Scroll Animation, Nexter Extra, Event Tracking, Nexter: Display Rule and Custom won’t be added to the global style when you save the style.*

### Save Global Style

Now, to save this style globally, go to the **Global Block Style** tab under the **Advanced** tab.

Click on the **Add Style** button.

In the popup, add a style name and click on the **Save** button.

The style name has to follow a few rules:

- The name must be between **2 and 60 characters**.

- The name must be unique. Reusing an existing name shows **Style Name already exists**.

- Use letters, numbers and spaces only. Symbols are not accepted, and the editor asks you to remove them.

> *Note: Leaving the name field empty shows Please enter a Style Name.*

Similarly, you can save multiple global styles of a block.

### Apply the Global Style

Now, to use that global style, let’s add another Blockquote block from Nexter Blocks. 

> *Note: A global style saved for a block can be applied to the same block type only. You can’t apply a global style of a block to another block type.*

Then go to the **Global Block Style** tab under the **Advanced** tab.

From the dropdown, select the global style name you saved the previous block with, and it will apply the same style of the previous block to this new block.

> *Note: The same style will only apply if you are using the same preset; otherwise, only common elements in your current preset will get global style.*

### Edit a Saved Global Style

Once a style is applied to a block, you can change the saved style itself instead of creating a new one.

Select a block that already has a global style applied, then go to the **Global Block Style** tab under the **Advanced** tab.

Click on the **Edit** icon (the pencil) beside the style dropdown. The saved style’s values load back into the block and the panel switches into editing mode.

Change any styling option as usual. To store those changes in the saved style, click on the **Sync** icon, then choose **Add to style** in the popup. Choosing **Keep on this block** leaves the saved style untouched and keeps the changes on this block only.

> *Note: The Edit icon appears only when a style is currently applied to the selected block. It is not available on the Nexter Button block, which uses Button Presets instead.*

> *Note: Add to style updates the style everywhere it is used, so every other block sharing it changes too. To restyle one block on its own, set the dropdown to None and choose Keep styling first, then style that block.*

### Sync Global Style

All the block that has a global style applied, you can easily maintain their style using the sync feature. With this, you can make style changes to one block and apply to all the blocks using the same global style.

To do this, let’s make changes to the style of one Blockquote block.

Then go to the **Global Block Style** tab under the **Advanced** tab.

Click on the **Sync Style** button, the new style will be applied to the other Blockquote block.

### Set a Default Global Style

A default style is applied automatically to new blocks of that type, so you do not have to pick it from the dropdown every time.

Select a block that has the global style you want as the default, then go to the **Global Block Style** tab under the **Advanced** tab.

Click on the **Set Default** icon beside the style dropdown. In the **Default Style** popup, it asks *Make this the default style for this block type?* Click **Yes** to confirm.

**Set Default** works as a toggle. To unset it, select a block using the current default style and click the same icon again, where the tooltip now reads **Default**. The popup asks *Remove this style as the default for this block type?* Click **Yes** to confirm.

> *Note: The default is stored per block type. Setting a default for one block type does not affect any other block type.*

> *Note: New blocks of that type use the default automatically. Blocks of that type already on the page that have no style of their own get it too, while blocks that already have a style stay unchanged.*

### Remove a Style From a Single Block

Removing a style from one block only unlinks that block. The saved style, and every other block using it, stay as they are.

Select the block, then go to the **Global Block Style** tab under the **Advanced** tab.

Set the style dropdown to **None**. The **Remove Style** popup confirms *The style link has been removed from this block.* and asks what should happen to the styling the block is still showing:

- **Keep styling** - the block keeps its current look as its own settings.

- **Clear styling** - the block goes back to its default appearance.

> *Note: If the block has no styling of its own left to keep, the style link is removed without showing the popup.*

### Delete a Global Style

You can easily delete the global style of a block.

To do that, go to the **Global Block Style** tab under the **Advanced** tab.

Then, from the dropdown, select the global style you want to delete.

After that, click on the delete icon button, and click it again to confirm.

Now that specific global style of the block will be deleted, and wherever that style was applied will be deleted as well.
