May 2026 was a big month for Nexter. WordPress 7.0 shipped and we landed compatibility two days later on both Nexter Extension and Nexter Blocks. The bigger story: 84 new WP Abilities went live across the Suite — 26 on Extension, 58 on Blocks. If you build with Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor, your AI agent can now drive a Nexter-powered WordPress site end to end.
Here’s everything that shipped this month, what’s coming in June, and what I took home from WordCamp Europe in Kraków.
🎉 What shipped in May
- 84 New WP Abilities Across the Suite: 26 on Nexter Extension (templates, snippets, SMTP, security, performance, image optimization, custom fonts) and 58 on Nexter Blocks (laying the groundwork for AI inside Gutenberg). Enable from Extension Dashboard → Connection → “Enable MCP Abilities”. Point Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor at your site and they can now read and modify Nexter-powered WordPress directly.
- WordPress 7.0 Compatibility: Tested on both Nexter Extension v4.6.10 (May 20) and Nexter Blocks v4.7.10 (May 21). Update WordPress first, then the Suite. Native Accordion, Breadcrumbs, Icon, Math, and Term Query blocks now in Core sit alongside your Nexter blocks with zero conflicts.
- SMTP Email Connection Improved (Extension v4.6.11): Cleaner setup flow, more reliable transactional email delivery. Built into the Suite, no separate plugin needed.
- Code Snippets In-Memory Evaluation (Extension v4.6.3): Conditional snippet display now uses in-memory data instead of repeated meta queries. Faster pages, fewer database hits on snippet-heavy sites.
- Theme Builder + Dashboard Localization Pass (Extension v4.6.7): Translation support across Theme Builder scripts plus untranslated dashboard strings fixed. Better experience for non-English WordPress installs.

What’s coming in June
This month is about simplification work across the Suite. Here is what the team is shipping:
- WooCommerce Blocks Suite: A full set of Woo-native blocks (WP Filter, Wishlist Product Add, Compare Product, Quick View Product). Built for store owners who want WooCommerce powered by Gutenberg without dropping back to shortcodes or third-party builders.
- RTL Compatibility (In Progress): Right-to-left layout support across all 90+ Nexter Blocks. Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu sites build with Nexter natively, no manual CSS overrides.
- GSAP Animation (Basic, Global, Advanced): The remaining advanced control surface ships this month. Scroll-triggered animations, timeline sequencing, repeater support, all configurable from the block sidebar.
- Global Button Preset Selection (Sprout UI): Pick from a curated Sprout UI button preset library directly inside the editor. Set the site-wide button language once, reuse it across every CTA.
- Performance Optimization Pass: PHP rendering via block.json (faster server-side hydration), plus Basic and Advanced settings split into separate panels for cleaner editor performance.
- Accessibility Improvements Across All Blocks: Semantic tag controls, ARIA labels, keyboard navigation reviewed block by block. WCAG 2.2 alignment so client sites pass audits without manual patches.
- Nexter FSE Theme Revamp (AI-Assisted Setup): A full revamp of the Nexter FSE Theme with the entire onboarding flow built with AI. Faster setup for new sites, smarter defaults.
📍 WordCamp Europe 2026 Recap
Just got back from Kraków. Three days at WordCamp Europe 2026 walking through Gutenberg Phase 3, the Core AI team’s roadmap, and the new Abilities API. A few moments from the trip:

Three things I took home as a Suite builder:
1. The Abilities API is the WordPress-wide AI standard. Core AI shipped 0.9.0 the same month we shipped 84 abilities across Nexter. Sites that adopt the Abilities API now get the cleanest AI-agent surface in the ecosystem, and Nexter is one of the first plugin Suites with a real catalogue live.
2. Gutenberg V4 is the platform’s compounding bet. Atomic blocks, native AI surfaces, block themes past 35% adoption. If you build client sites on Nexter Blocks, you’re already on the lane the platform is doubling down on.
3. Performance and accessibility are no longer differentiators, they are table stakes. Core Web Vitals + WCAG 2.2 + mobile-only indexing all converge in 2026 H2. Our June roadmap (performance pass + accessibility pass) is built around that reality.

📚 More from Nexter
🗞️ WordPress & Tech Bytes
- WordPress 7.0 has officially shipped on May 20. Native Accordion, Breadcrumbs, Icon, Math, and Term Query blocks now in Core, with Pattern Overrides and Block Bindings improvements. Real-Time Collaboration was pulled at the last minute over stability concerns. The foundation is solid. If you have not pushed the WordPress update to client sites yet, this is the month.
- WordPress Core’s AI plugin reached 0.9.0. The Abilities API approval system shipped, plus tighter API-key security. This is the layer the entire ecosystem will sit on top of. Nexter Extension and Nexter Blocks ship to that standard already.
- Automattic shipped Telex, an AI block authoring tool. Describe the Gutenberg block you want in plain English, Telex builds it. Early signal of where block creation is heading, especially for designers who do not write JavaScript.
- Block Theme adoption passed 35% on active WordPress installs per the WP.org dashboard. Block themes are now mainstream, not the experimental track. If you build agency sites, Block themes plus Nexter Blocks is the lowest-friction path to Gutenberg-first design systems.
- Pressable, WordPress VIP, and several WP Cloud partners earned Secure Hosting Alliance certification on May 28. For agencies recommending hosting to clients, this is an independent third-party audit, not a self-graded claim.
- Google’s mobile-only indexing deadline is July 1, 2026. From that date, sites without a working mobile version drop out of the Google index. June is the month to audit any legacy client portfolio and fix what fails.
- WordPress.org plugin directory hit 60,000 plugins. Discovery and quality signals continue to matter more than ever. The 100K-installs threshold is now the cleanest signal of trust for clients picking plugins for production sites.
🔥 Tool of the Month
RankReady gets your content cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, not just ranked by Google. The structured signals AI crawlers need to find, trust, and surface your content, handled once at setup.
If you build client sites on Nexter, RankReady is the lowest-friction add-on this quarter. Setup in under five minutes, no developer needed. Free on WordPress.org.

🗣️ Word of the Month
Nexter Extension Simply a Dream
“The Nexter Extension is a well-designed all-in-one solution for WordPress. If you want to run your website with as few plugins as possible and still use many functions, you’ll find a powerful tool here!”
🤔 Founder’s note
The strongest signal I took from Kraków: WordPress is making the AI layer native, not bolted on. The Abilities API in Core, the Block Bindings expansion, Telex for AI block authoring, the Core AI plugin at 0.9.0. Every announcement points to the same direction. The plugins that win the next 24 months are the ones already living on that lane.
That is why we shipped 84 abilities across Nexter Extension and Nexter Blocks in May, before the Core API was even fully stable. We wanted to be the first Suite an AI agent could drive end to end on a WordPress site. The June roadmap doubles down with WooCommerce Blocks, GSAP animations, performance pass, accessibility pass, and an AI-built FSE Theme revamp.
Drop a comment and tell me what your team is shipping in June. I read every one.
