# How to add a paragraph in WordPress?

## Key Takeaways

- Nexter Blocks Paragraph block adds a combined title and body layout, multi-column text, drop cap styling, and dynamic content from custom fields.
- Paragraph block supports separate HTML tags for the title and description, with H2 or H3 for the title and P for the body text.
- Dynamic content in Nexter Blocks Pro connects paragraph text to custom fields, post metadata, or field plugins like ACF.
- Style tab controls typography, text color, link color, text shadow, spacing between title and paragraph, and extra padding or margin for UL or OL list elements.

Paragraph blocks are the foundation of WordPress page and post content. When the default WordPress paragraph block feels too limited, the Paragraph block in Nexter Blocks gives you additional controls — including a combined title and body layout, multi-column text, drop cap styling, and dynamic content from custom fields.

The Paragraph block is part of [Nexter Blocks](https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-plus-addons-for-block-editor/) for the WordPress block editor. It supports dynamic content, HTML tag customization, multi-column layouts, and an optional title that shares the same block context as the paragraph text.

**Best Used For:**

- Blog posts and editorial pages that need drop cap styling, multi-column text, or a custom HTML tag for the paragraph

- Landing pages where a title and supporting paragraph need to be styled and aligned as a single block

- WooCommerce product pages and custom post types where paragraph content is pulled dynamically from ACF or other custom field plugins

## Required Setup

- Make sure the default WordPress Block editor is active.

- You need to have the [Nexter Blocks](https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-plus-addons-for-block-editor/) plugin installed and activated.

- Make sure the Paragraph block is activated, to verify this visit Nexter → Blocks → and Search for Paragraph and activate.

## Key Features

- **Add title and description together** – Combine a heading and body text in a single block. Use this when you want a section title and its supporting paragraph to share the same styling context and stay visually aligned on your page.

- **Choose different HTML tags** – Assign separate HTML tags to the title and description for an SEO-accurate heading hierarchy. Use H2 or H3 for the title and P for the body text so search engines read your page structure correctly.

- **Multi-column layout** – Split paragraph text across multiple columns for different screen sizes. Use this when long-form content reads better in a newspaper-style column layout on desktop while stacking to a single column on mobile.

- **Drop Cap styling** – Display the first letter of a paragraph as a large capital. Use this on editorial or magazine-style pages to create a visually distinctive reading experience.

- **Dynamic content (Pro)** – Connect paragraph text to custom fields, post metadata, or field plugins like ACF. Use this when paragraph content needs to update automatically based on the post or page it appears on.

For section headings with gradient text, highlighted spans, or animated effects, the [Advanced Heading block](https://nexterwp.com/docs/add-an-advanced-heading-in-wordpress/) in Nexter Blocks complements the Paragraph block on content-heavy pages.

## How to Use the Paragraph Block?

Add the Paragraph block to the page.

Click the **Design from Scratch** button to design the layout from scratch.

> *Note: By clicking on the Import Pre-Designed Template button, you can [import a preset template](https://nexterwp.com/docs/import-templates-in-nexter/#Import-Preset-Designs-for-Specific-Blocks-in-Nexter) and customize it as per your requirements.*

## Paragraph

In the **Content** section, type the paragraph text directly.

If you have Nexter Blocks (Pro), click the cylindrical icon at the end of the Content field to connect dynamic data from custom fields or post metadata. This is useful when your paragraph text needs to change per post — for example, displaying a product summary pulled from an ACF field.

Align your description text for different devices from the **Alignment** section. Use this when your layout uses centered text on desktop but requires left-aligned text on mobile.

From the **Columns** section, split the paragraph into multiple columns for responsive devices. Use 2 or 3 columns for wide-screen layouts where long text benefits from a side-by-side reading flow.

From the **Column Gap** section, set the spacing between columns of the paragraph for responsive devices. Increase this value when column text feels cramped or your design uses a wide-gutter layout.

Enable the **Drop Cap** toggle to display the first letter of a paragraph as a large capital letter. Use this on feature articles or editorial pages to create a distinctive print-like opening.

From the **Tag** section, assign a specific HTML tag to the description text for an SEO-friendly content structure. Use `p` for standard body text and `div` when the paragraph contains mixed HTML elements or custom field output.

For text content displayed as a structured icon-paired list, the [Icon List block](https://nexterwp.com/docs/add-an-icon-list-in-wordpress/) in Nexter Blocks lets you display bullet items with custom icons alongside your paragraph sections.

## Title

Turn on the **Show Title** toggle to add a title above the paragraph content.

In the **Content** section, type the title text. Pro users can click the cylindrical icon to connect the title to a custom field or dynamic data source. From the **Tag** section, choose the HTML tag for the title — use H2 or H3 to place the title correctly within your page heading structure.

## How to style Pro Paragraph Block in WordPress?

All styling options for the Paragraph block are under the **Style** tab.

**Paragraph** – Controls the typography, text color, link color, and text shadow for the description text. Use this to set the body text size and color to match your site reading style.

**Title** – Controls the typography, color, text shadow, and the spacing between the title and the paragraph below it. Increase the spacing when the title and body text feel visually joined.

**Extra Option** – Applies padding and margin adjustments to list elements inside the paragraph when you are using HTML lists (UL or OL) or custom field content from plugins like ACF.

For styled pull quotes or highlighted excerpts alongside your paragraph sections, the [Blockquote block](https://nexterwp.com/docs/add-a-blockquote-in-wordpress/) in Nexter Blocks gives you pull quote layouts with citation support.

Advanced options are common across all Nexter Blocks blocks. Explore spacing, borders, animations, and responsive visibility settings for this block from here.
