# How to Search Posts by Title Only in WordPress?

## Key Takeaways

- Nexter Blocks includes a Search Bar block that allows users to limit searches to post titles only.
- Users can enable the 'Search in Title' option in the Generic Filters section to restrict search results.
- The Search Bar block is part of Nexter Blocks and requires installation and activation to function.

By default, the WordPress search feature searches through the entire content of a website. However allowing users to search by post title only can improve the user experience, especially if you have a large number of posts with similar content.

With the Search Bar block from the Nexter Blocks, you can easily limit the search to post title or other parts of the posts in WordPress.

To do this, add the Search Bar block on the page or template and follow the steps -

1. Open the item under **Search Bar** and select **Post** from the **Source** section.

2. From the **Select Post** dropdown, select **Posts**.

Now, you should be able to see a dropdown beside the search bar.

Then make the necessary changes to Label, Placeholder and Show Count sections.

3. After that go to the **Standard Search** tab.

4. Click on the **Generic Filters** section and only keep **Search in Title** enabled and the rest disabled.

Now this will limit the search to post title only and it will not look into other parts of the post.

> *Note: In a similar way you can limit the search to different parts of posts only.*

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Q: What should I do if the Search Bar block isn't limiting the search to post titles?**
A: If the Search Bar block isn't limiting the search to post titles, ensure that you have enabled the 'Search in Title' option in the Generic Filters section. If this option is not checked, the search will include other parts of the posts. Double-check that you followed the steps correctly, especially in the Standard Search tab.

**Q: Can I use the Search Bar block to search for custom post types?**
A: The Search Bar block is designed to search through posts, but it does not specify support for custom post types. If you need to search custom post types, you may have to explore additional configurations or plugins that extend search functionality. The current setup focuses on standard posts.

**Q: What are the best settings for using the Search Bar block effectively?**
A: For optimal use of the Search Bar block, keep only the 'Search in Title' option enabled in the Generic Filters section. This focuses the search results on post titles, which can enhance user experience, especially on sites with many similar posts. Adjust the Label and Placeholder settings to provide clear guidance to users.

**Q: Is there a way to customize the appearance of the Search Bar block?**
A: While the page does not specify detailed customization options for the Search Bar block, you can make changes to the Label, Placeholder, and Show Count sections. This allows you to tailor the search bar's appearance to better fit your site's design and improve user interaction.
